The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 concept artist John Sweeney has created an official Shenmue limited edition art print, with proceeds from the sales up until July 17 to be donated to the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter.

Sweeney made this print under direction of Cook & Becker and with official license from SEGA. It’s part of a wider  idea to create a series of prints that would capture the heart of retro SEGA games and what they meant for the artists and people playing and growing up with them.

“I’m so excited that Shenmue 3 is finally happening! I wanted to capture the moment just after Ryo’s father Iwao is killed by Lan Di. In the game the scene stops with Ryo cradling Iwao and screaming “No!”. I wanted to imagine a shot where Ryo is standing just outside the dojo where is father was just killed,” said Sweeney. “It is cold and very early in the morning. Snow is falling. The morning light is still weak and only some of the wood interior is catching light from the outside. Ryo’s pose already hints at him seeking revenge.”

The normal size, unframed version of this print is printed on a glossy archival photo paper to emphasize the photographic nature of the image. The paper size of this version is 86 x 47.5 cm or 33.8 x 18.7″ including a small white border.

There are eight large prints and 100 smaller prints available. Prices start from £70, but you’ll pay much more for framing etc.

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter currently stands at $4,538,772 with eight days to go.
