It’s been announced that a remaster is coming for 2011 Grasshopper Manufacture action adventure Shadows of the Damned.

The announcement was such a surprise, it actually came during the countdown to the Devolver Digital Showcase this evening. We didn’t get much information on the remaster – other than it’s coming soon, but we did get word that we’ll hear more during a Grasshopper Direct 2023 presentation, set to take place on June 14 at 9pm PST (which is an eye-watering 5am UK time on June 15.) That same show will actually be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Grasshopper, the studio established by Suda 51 and famed for series like No More Heroes and Killer7.

Shadows of the Damned was an over-the-top action adventure starring demon hunter Garcia Hotspur, who must save his love from the damned along with his sidekick Johnson – a flaming skull that can turn into a gun as well as a bike – as you do. While it’s very much in your face and tongue in cheek – it still managed to nab itself quite a cult following on its original release, even though it never quite saw the commercial success that original publisher EA presumably expected. It’s also worth noting the other producer on the title was Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami, and much of his influence can also be felt on the game.

It’s not the only remaster of a Grasshopper Manufacture game on the way of course, with a Lollipop Chainsaw remake announced last year. We’ve no idea of platforms or a release date for the Shadows of the Damned Remaster just yet, but we’ll update you when we know.
