Microsoft has today released a playable demo of its team-based online shooter Shadowrun. Weighing in at 1.1GB the demo offers three training chapters to get players into the swing of things, plus online and offline (bots) multiplayer.

You’ll be restricted to just the one map – Power Station – and therefore only the Raid game type, and also only have the Elf and Human races to pick from. Magic available includes Tree of Life, Resurrect, Gust and Teleport, while tech-savvy players can use the Glider, Enhanced Vision and Smartlink.

There’s also a selection of weaponry including the Pistol, SMG, Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle and the lethal Katana.

There’s no time restriction on the demo so you’re free to keep playing online for as long as you like. We’d also recommend that all players go through the training before jumping online so not to look like an idiot in front of a bunch of elves.

Unfortunately there’s currently no word on a Windows Vista demo.
