According to figures released by the NPD Group, Microsoft and Bungie’s Halo 3: ODST sold 1.52 million units in the US during the September tracking period (August 30 through October 3).

“Halo 3 certainly impacted the industry two years ago (Sep’07) when it was launched, and this year, Halo 3: ODST realised impressive sales making it the 6th best-selling SKU launch of all time. Five of the top 10 software items for the month were on the Xbox 360 platform,” commented NPD analyst Anita Frazier.

The second best-selling game of the month was Wii Sports Resort, selling 442,900 units. Madden NFL sold a further 289,600 units and 246,500 units on Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story shifted 258,100 units and The Beatles: Rock Band sold 254,000 on Xbox 360. The band game which focuses on the career of the fab four also moved 208,600 units on Wii – figures for PS3 haven’t been released.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 sold 236,000 units on Xbox 360, Batman: Arkham Asylum showed good legs on PS3 (possibly thanks to new buyers of the PS3 Slim) with a further 210,800 units, and Guitar Hero 5 did best on Xbox 360 with 208,600 units.
