Madden NFL 12 took the US software sales crown for the month of September 2011, although this is likely down to its five-platform release.
Gears of War 3 has to settle for second place, but with over three million units sold worldwide neither Epic nor Microsoft will be too concerned. Dead Island staggers in at No.3, FIFA 12 takes fourth place and NHL 12 secures fifth.
Resistance 3 must settle for seventh place, emphasising the gulf in popularity between it and Epic’s Xbox 360 exclusive.
We expect both Madden and Gears will still be riding high next month, but with Forza 4, Kinectimals Now with Bears!, Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports: Season Two all hitting stores over the next few weeks we could see a new No.1.
