Sega have been very quiet about Sega Rally 2005, a PlayStation 2 exclusive game based on their famous rallying franchise. The game was to be the first Sega Rally game not to appear in the arcade before being ported to a home console, and this let Sega design a game geared towards the home. A career mode was to feature that would see the player moving from an amateur to a professional driver.

Well, Sega Rally 2005 is now dead, but thankfully Sega Rally 2006 has taken its place. Development on the game is said to be 90 percent complete and a playable version should make an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show. According to Famitsu magazine the game will be released in Japan in January 2006, and this new date is likely to be the reason for the name change, with the core game remaining as it was.
