Anyone picking up a second hand Wii U console may find a few free games courtesy of the previous owner, reports on NeoGAF suggest.

A user on NeoGAF states that his recent second hand Wii U purchase allowed him to freely download games including Trine 2 and Nano Assault Neo, even though the previous user accounts had been removed and internal storage wiped clean.

Game licenses appear to be bound to the Wii U console they were purchased on, rather than a specific user account – the same reason it’s not currently possible for a user to move their content from one Wii U to another.

Nintendo America has stated it is able to internally transfer digital content from a malfunctioning Wii U to a new machine, but such functionality hasn’t been made available to gamers.

Until Nintendo makes it possible to bind content to accounts – if it ever does – anyone picking up a second hand Wii U may find a few free games included.
