Sea of Thieves developer Rare is making a significant change to its pirate booty-'em-up, with cross-play between PC and Xbox One users becoming an optional feature.
Speaking in a new developer video, Rare's Joe Neate revealed that cross-play will be made optional later this year, prior to the launch of Arena. It all comes down to player feedback, and Rare has already confirmed that it's working on a toggle to allow Xbox One pad players to be placed alongside fellow console gamers only if they desire.
On the other hand, if you're using a mouse and keyboard for Xbox One or a PC player, then you'll be in the cross-play arena.
'We strongly believe our approach is the right one for all our players across the board,' commented Neate.
Sea of Thieves' next big update will set sail on February 6, and will include a bunch of key improvements for the game's combat among other things.
