Sea of Thieves, the swashbuckling booty-gathering multiplayer romp from developer Rare, will receive three major new expansions in 2018.

The PC and Xbox One title has already received one major update in the form of The Hungering Deep, with Cursed Sails due to drop anchor this summer and Forsaken Shores docking in September.

However, there's more on the horizon, as confirmed by Rare's Craig Duncan and Mike Chapman during a chinwag with IGN. Apparently, the team is looking to pump out new experiences for Sea of Thieves on a regular basis, which can only be a good thing for a game that has been criticised for its lack of content.

'We're trying to make amazing content as quick as we can,' revealed Duncan, 'but obviously we're prototyping new mechanics. [The Hungering Deep’s] Megalodon is very different from Forsaken Shores, very different from Cursed Sails.'

'We've actually organized the teams in a leapfrog fashion. So now that the Hungering Deep team are finished they're working on the next thing.'

Duncan added that Rare has also brought in more staff to work on Sea of Thieves since the game shipped, adding 'we are fully committed to Sea of Thieves in the future.'

Sea of Thieves launched in March, though didn't exactly blow us away at the time.
