Sea of Thieves developer Rare has confirmed that it has given the boot to the controversial Death Cost feature.
The new addition was revealed last week in a set of release notes, and was to apparently charge players a small fee upon death. Understandably, budding pirates were not too chuffed with the idea and immediately let their feelings be heard over social media, which Rare has taken note of.
It turns out that the developer somewhat fumbled its messaging for the Death Cost, and it wasn’t actually going to charge gamers for dying in PvP conditions as originally feared. Nonetheless, the studio has issued a statement on the matter, and the feature has been scrapped all the same.
‘We understand that this addition to the release notes was a little confusing, and in the future we will ensure that any future updates we discuss give you a better understanding of how and why we’re implementing it,’ said Rare. ‘Sea of Thieves is constantly evolving, and any feature we will test, monitor data and listen to your feedback to ensure we’re making the right decisions.’
