Sea of Thieves kicks off its next monthly update with Dark Relics, the second installment of the scheduled content arrivals to Rare’s sea wolf sim.

Dark Relics is a new adventure in which an abominable skeleton crew have nicked the titular artefacts from the Order of Souls, and it’s down to the piratical players to take them back. There are three new Voyages to undertake for this challenge, from The Wilds, The Shores of Plenty, and The Ancient Isles. Additionally, there is one other Voyage that will take Pirate Legends straight to the heart of The Devil’s Roar for more Dark Relic fragments. Retrieve all five relics and be handsomely rewarded for your trouble.

That’s not all. Ships are sinking all over the seven seas, and hidden inside the wrecks are the new Reaper’s Chests. Dredge the chest from the waters and return them for tonnes of Doubloons, but once the Reaper’s Mark is upon you, the ship will be revealed to all rival crews on their map. Ensure your dinghy is in fighting form to secure the Reaper’s bounty.

Rare has also fixed and improved a lot of gameplay features, including ranged and melee combat, new items to be found in Barrels of Plenty, and added a rowboat with a harpoon cannon. The entire list of changes are here in the release notes.

Sea of Thieves is out now for PC and Xbox One. Watch the Dark Relics announcement video below.
