Scrubs actor Donald Faison has confirmed that the Default dance emote was lifted pretty much wholesale from Turk’s Poison dance.
There was a Scrubs cast reunion at the Vulture Festival, in L.A., during which Faison was asked to perform the dance. He declined, saying, ‘If you want to see it, you can play Fortnite, because they jacked that s**t.’
Bill Lawrence, who created the show, did then follow up Faison’s comments, explaining that he had been asked by developer Epic, and that he had agreed to its use. ‘Real trivia,’ said Lawrence, ‘Fortnite had to enquire [about] the legality of it, and it’s fine because it’s just a character dancing.”
In a tongue-in-cheek show of indignance, Faison then argued, ‘I didn’t get no money…I know, that’s what you’re all thinking right? Somebody got paid. No. No, I did not. Somebody stole that s**t and it’s not mine no more.’
This isn’t the only dance that Epic has pinched for use in its battle royale juggernaut. Rapper 2 Milly has said recently that he was pursuing legal action for the use of his ‘Milly Rock.’ BlockBoy JB and Chance The Rapper have both also tweeted their irritation.
Epic hasn’t responded to the comments, but they aren’t under huge pressure to do so because there aren’t copyright laws for choreography in the US. It still isn’t very nice though, is it?
