One of gaming’s most curious projects could resurface over a decade after its online debut. Halo DS, a prototype game made in the GoldenEye: Rogue Agent engine, may finally make its way online via its original leaker, Matt Casamassina.

We might get to play Halo DS

Following the recent Halo Mega Bloks game build leak, many fans turned their attention to the holy grail of the franchise’s lost media: Halo DS. First shared on IGN back in 2007, the small demo allowed players to battle in the iconic multiplayer map Last Resort/Zanzibar.

Responding to a post on Twitter, Casamassina revealed that he didn’t keep the game, but wished he did because of how “sought-after” it is now. However, the ex-journalist told fans he would search for the ROM to share it online.

“If I get some time next week I’ll do some digging and see if I can find this s**t,” the former IGN journalist told fans.

While not a confirmation that Halo DS will see the light of day, this is the first time fans have received an update on the game’s existence. In development at N-Space, the same studio that eventually created the scrapped Mega Bloks game, the game was an instantly adored project once fans found out about it.

Other Halo Lost Media

Outside of Halo DS and the cancelled Mega Bloks game, there’s not much lost media for the popular Xbox series. However, in 2006, Microsoft announced Halo Chronicles, an episodic game in development by WingNut Interactive. No screenshots, videos or builds of the game have ever been released.

Microsoft was still hiring for Halo Chronicles as late as August 2006, but the game was cancelled sometime in 2009. Hopefully, one day, a build of the game will make its way online, giving fans even more Halo to experience.
