Tribute Games, the team behind the excellent Scott Pilgrim vs The World, has created a Kickstarter page for its latest project, Mercenary Kings.

Mercenary Kings is a 2D side-scrolling shooter that includes weapon crafting, looting and “intense boss battles”. The team’s Kickstarter video states that they “won’t hesitate to steal” ideas from their favourite games, which include Castlevania, Contra and Mega-Man, with early prototype footage of the game having a similar art style to the Metal Slug series.

Tribute Games needs to raise $75,000 to make the project a reality, but would ideally have $200,000 for the game to “reach its full potential”. At the time of writing, the team had raised nearly $16,000, with the Kickstarter closing on September 13.

Fans can pledge up to $2,000, and for that amount, you get to work with the team and design your own in-game weapon, as well as be listed in the credits as a “GUNSMITH”.
