Microsoft and Samsung have announced that they will be working together to bring Xbox gamers HD ready TV sets. Samsung has been chosen by Microsoft as the exclusive worldwide marketing partner for the next generation Xbox. A key part of Microsoft’s strategy for the next generation appears to be high-definition gaming and this will be demoed all over the globe on more than 25,000 high-def retail kiosks provided by Samsung.
“Gaming has become a primary force for innovation in the entertainment and technology industries. Samsung has selected Microsoft Xbox as the best next-generation game console and a key driver in the global HDTV revolution,” said Peter Weedfald, Senior Vice President Consumer Electronics & North America Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics, Inc. “Samsung is proud to expand the Microsoft relationship and stand with them at the forefront of the HD gaming century.”
“Samsung is a natural partner to showcase the richness of the next-generation Xbox,” said Peter Moore, Corporate Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Publishing for Xbox at Microsoft. “Samsung HDTVs will provide Xbox enthusiasts with the truest high-definition gaming experience available.”
It is all very nice, and the idea of high-definition gaming on a massive flat-panel LCD TV sounds great, but don’t expect it to be cheap. No details on any deals have been announced, but it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see a special promotion tied into the next console’s launch.
