Nintendo is gearing up to release a Super Smash Bros. game for the Switch later this year, according to industry tipster Emily Rogers (via resetera).

Details are sketchy at best, but Rogers’ sources indicate that the game will be released in 2018, and appears to be in part based on the Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and 3DS. However, Ninty is reportedly adding new content to the game and has also tweaked existing features from the previous title.

Obviously this shouldn’t be taken an official confirmation by any means, but to her credit Rogers has nailed a number of key leaks in the past, including full specifications and functionality for the Switch prior to its reveal.

Super Smash Bros. is one of the Big N’s hottest franchises, so there’s absolutely no reason why the series won’t make the transition to its portable powerhouse. Whether or not it will be a ‘definitive edition’ of the Wii U version or something new entirely remains to be seen, however.

The previous game launched back in 2014 and was frankly bloody fantastic, so definitely colour us excited for a Switch version.
