Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch with an official companion app, developer Rockstar Games has announced.

The app will be available for iOS and Android devices, connecting directly with your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One during gameplay to feed you real-time info. From here, you'll be able to use your smart device to fiddle with Red Dead 2's map, set waypoints and mark areas of interest to facilitate your journey through the Old West.

In addition to helping you navigate the world, you can have a gander at various real-time stats for Arthur Morgan; this also allows you remove the HUD, giving you a clutter-free experience on your telly.

Players can also use the companion app to read Morgan's journal, read the digital game manual, and offers stat tracking via the Social Club.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. The full map leaked yesterday, and it's about as massive as you would expect.
