Rockstar Games has sent out an email to its supporters, thanking them for their continued support and also took the opportunity to offer some thoughts on the Manhunt 2 ban.

We wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to contact us about Manhunt 2,” said an email sent out by Rockstar. “We are very proud of Manhunt 2 and believe it builds on what the team accomplished with the first title in the series. The game was developed as a horror experience, and to be an M rated title, aligning it with similar horror content created in other forms of media.

The email goes on to say: “Unlike many other people, we do not think videogames should be singled out for special treatment from the authorities. We hope to have more information for you soon, but in the meantime, we wanted you to know how much we value all of your messages of support.

Manhunt 2 had been scheduled for release on Wii, PS2 and PSP in July, but the BBFC’s refusal to rate the game has resulted in the title being banned from release. It’s a similar story in the US where the ESRB’s Adults Only rating has prevented the game from being released on the Wii and Sony’s platforms.
