Rockstar is backing imminent crime thriller LA Noire with a huge marketing campaign, which includes a four week push on terrestrial and satellite TV which the publisher claims will reach five million males.

The GTA and Red Dead Redemption publisher is aiming to make LA Noire the “blockbuster entertainment event for 2011” and has already kicked off its marketing with TV spots during the Champions League semi-final matches on ITV.

You’ll also see ads for four weeks on video-on demand services Sky Anytime, Box Office, 4OD and Blinkbox. Sponsorship can also be seen on Sky Movies Crime and Thriller channel into June.

There’ll also be a large web presence – including Google and YouTube, plus well placed ads in print publications Shortlist, the Evening Standard, The Guardian and The Times. Commuters should also notice LA Noire posters on the London Underground.

LA Noire will be released on May 20 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Launching almost a year to the day after Red Dead Redemption hit stores, Rockstar must be hoping LA Noire will repeat the success of the sprawling Wild West adventure. However, we reckon LA Noire will be a harder sell, coming some way short of the eight million copies shipped by Red Dead Redemption (as of February 2011).
