Psyonix has announced that Rocket League remains extremely popular, so much so that it’s now passed 34 million players. That’s an increase of a million from a month ago. Along with this news, Psyonix has also weighed in with its thoughts on player safety and online harassment in its games, by introducing a new addition to its Player Report system.

As Psyonix celebrated the enduring popularity of its game and the increase of players as it reached the ridiculous milestone of 34 million, it also took the time to address in a blog post that with its increase in players numbers comes an increased responsibility to protect its community, writing of the need ‘to ensure that Rocket League is a consistently-safe, harassment-free place where players of all ages and backgrounds can come together and execute the sweetest of aerial goals and backflip saves’.

The Player Reporting System has introduced a new layer of automation, called the Language Ban system, which automatically bans players from online matches when player reports are filed that state certain words such as racial slurs have been used. Initially this will be based on a list of over 20 words and phrases, which Psyonix won’t be making public, and variants that will evolve and expand over time. This is a good and much needed step to stop foul language being gleefully espoused in an environment where there are likely plenty of children playing.

Recently the game has benefitted from a number of discounts at various retailers, with a recent offer bundling the game with a three month Xbox Live Gold membership, which no doubt increased sales of the vehicular football game.

You can read more about the ban system additions on the Psyonix blog.

Rocket League is out now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will be coming to Nintendo Switch later on in 2017.
