Ace Team has announced a surprise sequel to its Monty Python influenced tower defense game Rock of Ages, that sees the player smashing enemy defenses with huge rock boulders. Even better news is that it’ll be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One on August 29, following its PC release on August 28. Smashing stuff.

Rock of Ages 2 sees the player helping the sky-holding Greek god Atlas after he’s literally dropped the ball, assisting him through different periods of art history in order to avoid the consequences of his actions. Prominent historical figures through history are trying to stall the progress of Atlas as he tries to undo the damage he’s done. Players will play through intentionally inaccurate art history eras from Early Renaissance through to Surrealism, recreated in a quirky, Python-esque cut-out animation style.

New to the game is the inclusion of cooperative and competitive play, where up to four players can team up to overcome rocky competition. Resources have also undergone a revamp, with players now having to defend their own castles and resource nodes as well.

Players who purchase the game within four weeks of launch will receive a free ‘Binding of Isaac’ themed pack. Owners of the previous game, Rock of Ages, will receive the official digital soundtrack and Classic Pack add-ons for free.

Rock of Ages 2 will be available from August 28 on PC, and from August 29 on the PS4 and Xbox One.Â
