Harmonix has confirmed that the Rock Band Network beta is scheduled to begin today. The opening of the new service will make it possible for anyone to create, share and sell songs for the Rock Band games.
The service will launch initially only for Xbox 360, but a roll-out on PS3 is planned at a later date.
The Rock Band website will go offline between 5pm and 10pm GMT in order to merge the profiles of rockband.com and the Rock Band Network website. Once the site comes back online fans should be prepared for a few teething problems.
One of the first record labels to embrace the Rock Band Network is Sub Pob, which according to the Wall Street Journal is paying contractors to prepare 25 songs by its most commercially successful acts: The Sins, Flight of the Conchords, Mudhoney, Sleater-Kinney and the Postal Service.
