Risk of Rain 2 is out now for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Xbox One, as revealed in a surprise announcement from Gearbox at PAX West.

Risk of Rain is a 2D roguelike with platforming elements that was developed by just two university students, and released in 2013. Its sequel quietly emerged on Steam Early Access in March, and transformed the classic and critically acclaimed procedural gameplay into a totally 3D title. In a post on the PlayStation blog, brand manager for Gearbox Publishing Nathaniel Wattenmaker said, ‘One of our goals was actually to keep the core moment-to-moment gameplay feeling similar and authentic to the original.’

‘When you land in Risk of Rain 2, the enemies will likely kick your butt, but in a fair way. Pay close attention and you’ll see patterns everywhere. You learn. You grow. You get better. Eventually taking down enormous bosses to push ever deeper into the planet’s mysteries,’ he added. With four player co-op and seven different survivor classes available now, this is the best time to buckle in and touch down on a unique alien world.
