Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Season Pass includes a new tomb, microtransactions teased?

Rise of the Tomb Raider is getting a Season Pass, a listing on the Xbox Store has confirmed, and there may be some microtransactions on the way, too. [UPDATE: There are.]

According to its description, the Season Pass includes access to a “range of content that will extend your single-player campaign” via three major DLC drops, including a brand new tomb, a new Endurance Mode, and a wave-based expansion.

Endurance Mode seems to be the first up, challenging players to survive the mode’s “extreme conditions”, while the Temple of the Witch will see players exploring “a new tomb that houses an ancient terror in Baba Yaga.”

The third add-on, meanwhile, will task players with defeating “combat waves of infected predators in Cold Darkness Awakened”.

A “steady stream” of outfits, weapons, and Expedition Cards” will also be released from day one through the first four months after launch, keeping players “customizing, expanding, and challenging your friends to new adventures.”

A price for the Season Pass has yet to be confirmed, nor is it clear how much the DLC will cost individually.

Expedition Cards, meanwhile, appear to be gameplay-modifiers that could be a form of microtransaction. Five types of pack are currently listed on the Xbox Store – Silver Pack, Gold Pack, Challenge Pack, Advantage Pack and Wild Pack – each containing a set of 5 Expedition Cards.

Again, it isn’t yet clear how much each pack will cost or whether Expedition Cards can be unlocked via gameplay. VideoGamer.com has contacted Microsoft for more information.

• Silver Pack: A set of 5 Expedition Cards, guaranteed to contain at least one Uncommon Card. Cards can be used in all extra gameplay modes.
• Gold Pack: A set of 5 Expedition Cards, guaranteed to contain at least one Rare Card. Cards can be used in all extra gameplay modes.
• Challenge Pack: A set of 5 Expedition Cards, each of which inflicts a restriction on Lara or another modifier that makes gameplay more difficult. Overcome challenges to earn bonus credits. Cards can be used in all extra gameplay modes.
• Advantage Pack: A set of 5 Expedition Cards, each of which will give Lara a distinct advantage while playing. Perfect for those looking for a little edge. Cards can be used in all extra gameplay modes.
• Wild Pack: A set of 5 Expedition Cards, each of which will have a highly unique impact on gameplay. Who knows what creative, crazy, or even Rare Cards are within? Cards can be used in all extra gameplay modes.

Rise of the Tomb Raider launches on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on November 13.
