Trion Worlds, the firm behind RIFT, has just unveiled the MMO’s free-to-play option, Rift Lite.
Rift Lite offers anyone with a Trion account the ability to play the game for free up until level 20 without any play restrictions.
Rift Lite releases today, alongside the game’s latest content patch Carnival of the Ascended which features Ascended Weddings, PvP improvements, the new River of Souls Chronicle.
This should sound familiar, WoW fans. Earlier last year I wrote a piece criticising WoW’s apparent free-to-play model (extended trial, really) which similarly let users play the game for without cost up until level 20, but with severe restrictions to their play. I can’t help but be impressed that Trion is, unlike Blizzard, offering a true F2P experience within these levels.
