The beta version of Rift’s mobile app is now available for free on the App Store.

The app can be used on all iOS devices, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Users who download it will be able to take part in real-time chat in the game, play games that grant prizes, and get zone event alerts regardless of their current subscription status, as long as they have a game account and character.

This is set to be just the first stage of the Rift Mobile roll-out, with a beta version of the app to go live for Android phones later this month, and a full launch of the devices planned for the first quarter of 2012.

The mobile app is one of the number of new features Trion worlds has been toying with, alongside their Red Door gaming platform which will help developers “radically speed up the time-to-market” for games.

Rift launched in 2011.
