Namco Bandai has opened beta sign-ups for the PlayStation 3 version of free-to-play racer Ridge Racer Driftopia.

Limited sign-ups are available on Sony's official site, with the beta expected to be available to successful applicants today.

Ridge Racer Driftopia is a free-to-play take on last year's disappointing Ridge Racer Unbounded. But don't expect this to be all that much better: I had a go on the PC beta earlier this month and thought it was one of the most cynical free-to-play titles I'd played in a very long time.

Ridge Racer Driftopia is due to launch in full on PC and PS3 later this year.
