Resident Evil Requiem is the highly-anticipated next installment in Capcom’s never-ending zombie franchise. Recently, we saw more of the game and new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, at Gamescom 2025, and attendees were even able to get their hands on the game through a demo. This demo showcased significant differences in gameplay between first and third-person, and it also showcased a terrifying new monster. A lot of fans theorised the monster could be the return of Lisa Trevor, but Capcom has now debunked this popular Resident Evil Requiem theory.
Capcom debunk Resident Evil Requiem Lisa Trevor theory
At Gamescom 2025, Japanese outlet, denfaminicogamer, was able to interview Resident Evil Requiem director, Koshi Nakanishi. During this interview, it was highlighted how the RE community had noticed similarities in its voice with Lisa Trevor, resulting in the belief that the monster is Lisa Trevor.
In acknowledging the similarities, Nakanishi said the “voice of the current version of the creature is not yet definitive” and it is actually a “temporary sound based on Lisa’s voice”. The director said there are other things apart from the voice that are not finalized and “are under development,” and further said, “I’m sorry for misleading users” with the Lisa similarities.
Lastly, the director joked that denfamicogamer could use the headline, “Actually, it wasn’t Lisa”. There may be some slight inaccuracies due to Google translate from Japanese, but the gist of the director’s comments is that the unnamed monster is not Lisa from the Resident Evil 2002 remake.
This might be a disappointing debunk for the community as Lisa was a popular recurring boss in the RE remake. She returned in Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and was presumably killed for good, but of course there are theories that she is still alive.
Resident Evil Requiem is slated to come out on February 27th. In addition to debunking the monster as Lisa, it’s also been revealed that the monster’s AI is a truly dynamic system similar to Alien Isolation rather than the system previously used by Capcom in games such as RE8 for the likes of Lady Dimitrescu.
