Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) will be with us on February 27, 2026, and the excitement is palpable. Previews have been positive, and Resident Evil fans new and old will be looking forward to seeing Leon Kennedy again and welcoming newcomer Grace Ashcroft.

However, the road to Resident Evil Requiem has been different than the one we walked before with Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Village. Both of those games received high-profile playable demos that introduced us to the new environments and gave us a delicious taste of the horror to come, but so far, nothing has been forthcoming for Requiem.

For Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, fans were treated to Beginning Hour, a PT-inspired demo which Capcom released on the PS4 on June 13, 2016. This was a good seven months before the main game would release on January 24, 2017.

The demo saw us play as Clancy Jarvis, a member of a horror documentary crew who had been trapped in the Baker House after his friends were slaughtered and he was captured by the menacing Jack Baker.

Clancy’s ultimate fate was revealed in the main story of Resident Evil 7, but the demo showed fans that the game was a full return to survival horror, and that the crazy action setpieces of RE6 were long gone.

A Resident Evil Requiem demo looks unlikely

Capcom released the RE8 demo, known as “Maiden,” on January 21, 2021, four months before the main game, which followed on May 7, 2021. This demo saw a member of the serving staff staying at Castle Dimitrescu realise she was working with vampiric bioweapons and desperately try to escape.

Once again, this demo let us explore some key locations from the main game, get to know some of its characters, and was tied directly to the story. Like Beginning Hour, Maiden set the tone for the game and teased what fans could expect from the final product.

We’re now a matter of weeks until Resident Evil Requiem arrives, and no such demo has arrived. The press has played two separate demos, but so far, Capcom has not released a prequel scenario like Beginning Hour or Maiden.

At this stage, we’d put our money on there not being one, as the previous demos released months before the final game, it seems rather unlikely at this stage. Never say never, but we’re of the view that the next slice of Resident Evil action will be on February 27, when the game finally hits shelves.
Until then, we at least have the stellar live-action trailer to enjoy.
