Speaking to Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi, MTV Multiplayer learned that the Resident Evil 5 demo has proven massively popular on Xbox 360 and PS3, with downloads topping four million.
MTV also questioned Takeuchi on a number of issues raised by fans after having spent some time with the demo.
The decision to present the cooperative single-system multiplayer using two unaligned boxes was made in order to offer the best possible gameplay experience said Takeuchi. Eliminating the black space would have made each player’s view too wide, and the skewed alignment was chosen in order to prevent the top player from appearing to be stacked on the bottom player – it was a “little difficult to play”, said Takeuchi.
And what of the Marmite controls? “We knew it was going to come up,” said Takeuchi. “When you get your hands on the [full] game you’ll understand the choice we made with the controls.”
“We understand that there are many people who want to run and shoot at the same time, but it’s not the right alignment for the game,” he added.
Resident Evil 5 is scheduled for release on March 13 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
