The latest issue of Japanese video game magazine Famitsu has revealed new info on the upcoming Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition – a retail and DLC release.

As previously announced, Alternative Edition will feature a new Lost in Nightmares chapter, putting players in control of Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield in a scenario set in Spencer’s mansion from the first Resident Evil game. Famitsu confirms that there’ll also be a second new episode, but no details have been released at this time.

That’s not all. Alternative Edition will also feature an updated Mercenaries mode, offering access to previously unusable characters.

The retail game is set for a February 18 release in Japan.

Famitsu also detailed pricing for the Alternative Edition content in DLC form:

– The Lost in Nightmares Episode: ¥500/400 MS Points

– Costume Pack 1: ¥200/160 MS Points

– Additional Episode Title TBA: ¥500/400 MS Points

– Costume Pack 2: ¥200/160 MS Points

The DLC will be released in stages beginning in March 2010. While pricing and release timing is specific to Japan, it’s assumed the US/EU release won’t be far behind.

Strangely, the Famitsu article doesn’t make any mention of motion control support, despite this being one of the headline features for the PS3 Alternative Edition when announced back at the Tokyo Game Show.
