Capcom have made the rather unexpected announcement that Resident Evil 4, the long awaited addition to the near ten-year old series will be released on the PS2 towards the winter of 2005.

The news will come as a shock to most, as the traditional Resi series was stated as being Gamecube-exclusive back in September of 2001, with only the offshoot Survivor and Outbreak games appearing on other formats.

No solid facts are known yet as to how the PS2 incarnation will shape up – with the GC version sporting some of the finest graphics seen on a console it will be interesting to see if these can be carried over to the technically inferior Sony machine. All will become clear in the coming months as the inevitable announcements are made.

Whatever happens, it is definitely good news for PS2 owners. Keep your browsers pointed at Pro-G for more news as it breaks.
