Def Jam Rapstar has announced an association with Atlantic Records UK – the label which has released music from stars including Flo-Rida, Jay-Z, T.I., Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B, Missy Elliott, Plan B and many more – to offer a record deal to the winner of Def Jam Rapstar’s nationwide search for Britain’s best new Rapper.

This will be the first time new music talent has ever been signed from a video game.

The search for a British Rapstar will launch January 1, 2011, with players invited to upload their performances to defjamrapstar.com using the game’s freestyle mode, with this stage of the contest lasting one month.

The top UK rappers, as voted for by the community on www.defjamrapstar.com, will then be invited to battle it out live on Def Jam Rapstar’s freestyle mode at regional qualifiers, held at select HMV stores across the country during February 2011 and judged by the audience in attendance.

The final ten will then go head-to-head at a central London finale and judged by a panel of Hip Hop/Music aficionados. The winner will be crowned the Rapstar champ and signed by Atlantic Records who will then go on to release the Rapstar’s first single commercially.

Def Jam Rapstar is available now for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.

The tools available in Def Jam Rapstar make it possible for wannabe rappers to find an audience, and this competition brings together that social element of the game with the chance to win a potentially life-changing record deal.

If you think you’ve got what it takes then it’s got to be worth a shot.
