Dundee-based developer Realtime Worlds, a studio set up by GTA and Lemmings creator David Jones, has secured £23 million in funding from venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates. The money will be used to develop new franchises and recruit staff.
Realtime Worlds will release its first title, Crackdown for the Xbox 360, next year, and is also working on All Points Bulletin, an MMO for PC and Xbox 360.
“We are developing a global centre of excellence for some of the world’s best games developers that is really quite breathtaking,” said Jones. “Together with NEA, we will use this investment to build on the quality of Crackdown and All Points Bulletin and to build new gaming experiences for game consoles, such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and PC online.“
As part of the agreement, NEA principle Patrick Chung and NEA partner Harry Weller join the Realtime Worlds board of directors, with Ian Hetherington retaining his role as chairman.
