Ubisoft has rolled out a major update for Rainbow Six Siege introducing the game’s first free DLC map, two new operators and a few unexpected surprises, including the release of the game’s Spectator Mode across all platforms.
As revealed yesterday, ‘Yacht’ sees players heading aboard a luxury yacht that has crashed into an iceberg in the Baffin Bay, and is available for free to all players. You can check out what it looks like in the video above.
The two new Operators, meanwhile, are Buck and Frost, characters that first leaked online last month. Frost is a defensive operator capable of laying a mechanical trap capable of immobilizing an opposing player. The device cannot be detected by electronic scanners, meaning players can use it to catch their prey by surprise, although it doesn’t appear to kill them outright, simply leaving them open to attack.
Buck, meanwhile, is an attacking operator equipped with an under-barrel mounted 12 gauge shotgun, letting him quickly switch between close-quarters and ranged combat, and destroy barricades. Both operators come with new weapons, including Frost’s Super 90 shotgun and Buck’s CAMRS assault rifle, and are considered medium speed characters with medium armour.
Both characters are exclusive to Season Pass holders until February 9, after which they’ll be available to purchase individually for £3.99 or 25,000 Renown.
The Spectator Camera, which was previously only available on PC, is now available on PS4 and Xbox One, too, but appears to be limited to custom games. The mode lets an eleventh player spectate a custom game in real time, allowing them to see the perspective from any of the game’s 10 players or pull the camera back to gain an overhead view of the entire map.
You can check out what it looks like in the video below, but be aware it was recorded during the game’s Alpha state back in August, meaning some elements may have changed considerably since.
There are a variety of other bug fixes, tweaks, and improvements included in the patch, too, including a change that doubles the flashbang’s range of effect, reduces the intensity of bullet trails, and adds the option to spawn in locations individually of your teammates, allowing a team to approach their objective from multiple angles. Silencers now reduce the visibility of bullet trails even further, allowing for a stealthier approach.
A series of new weapon skins themed around the update are available, too, including a ‘JTF-2 skin’ and ‘USA winter camo’, and are available to purchase using Renown or R6 Credits. A special Black Ice weapon skin, however, can only be bought using R6 Credits and is only available for the duration of Season One.
