Gamasutra reports that id Software’s strong support of the user generated mod scene could be forced to stop with the release of Rage, although creative director Tim Willits notes it’s still under consideration.
During Willits’ presentation at Austin GDC, he was questioned on Rage’s mod support, to which he noted the studio is still very open to the idea, but feels the technical complexities of Rage, in particular the megatexture system, will make modding much more “difficult”.
Willits said that one solution would be for modders to create modular chunks of gameplay that could be slotted into the Rage game world. It’s not the full mod support that fans will want, but is better than no mod support at all.
