Bethesda has reintroduced a Quake 2 enhanced version that improves upon the exciting shoot ’em up of yore in every way imaginable. The reintroduced chaotic FPS will apparently be bringing a bevy of new content that includes an “online multiplayer/co-op with crossplay, optional deathmatch bots, visual upgrades, and now up to 120hz in 4K.”

However, these aren’t the only new goodies that classic shooter fans can expect as the re-release also contains the original Quake 2 campaign along with both The Reckoning and Ground Zero mission packs. Longtime series fans are also in for a huge treat as it includes the previous Nintendo 64-exclusive Quake 2 64 as well as “the brand-new Call of the Machine episode from MachineGames.”

As mentioned before, the revamped game will also include both local split-screen and online crossplay matches that lets you experience various modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag with other players. If you’re struggling to gather enough squad members, the Quake 2 enhanced version will have Deathmatch bots that you can use to fill teams up.

There’s also no need to worry about the AI not putting up much of a fight. This is because Bethesda has also stated that they’ve improved every facet of the in-game AI by providing them with “improved pathing, new attacks, and new tactics.” Each encounter with a bot will see them actively dodging shots and jumping off ledges to get better angles making the experience increasingly difficult and more exciting than ever before.

The developers have also revealed that the hellish shooter is now available on all platforms such as the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch. Not to be forgotten, it will also be playable on PC platforms as well including Game Pass. Bethesda has called this re-release their “biggest effort yet”, so if you want to learn more about the developers efforts, then you can do so through their official announcement page.
