The next game from PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds outfit Bluehole Studios has been formally announced for the west today, and it’s a very different beast from the popular online shooter.

An MMORPG for the PC, Ascent: Infinite Realm (also known as A:IR) takes place in a ‘high fantasy steampunk world’ combined with magical fantasy elements and will see players select from one of five customisable classes to battle it out both on the ground with mechs or take to the air using a range of items from magical personal flying contraptions to huge elaborate airships which are also fully customisable.

One of the major hooks for the game appears to be the realm-based PvP mode, in which factions take turns in leading offensive and defensive efforts, promising ‘various strategic weapons such as cannons, mines and attack buffs are at each faction’s disposal to tip the balance in their favour.’

There’s no specific date for the game’s release yet, but publisher Kakao Games promises a beta test to commence in the first half of 2018 which you can sign up for on the game’s website.Â
