PS2 platformer Psychonauts is heading to PS4 later this spring, Double Fine has announced.

While unconfirmed, you should probably expect to see it arrive as part of the recently-launched PS2 Classics range, which enhances the resolution of supported titles to 1080p. You can check out the first screenshots here. [UPDATE: The game will be an emulated version of the PS2 original, Double Fine has confirmed, “but hopefully with some added bells and whistles”.]

News follows shortly after the announcement of Psychonauts 2, which is due to hit PS4, Xbox One and PC “in a few years’ time”. A virtual reality title based on the franchise, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is also due to release exclusively on PlayStation VR later this year.

Psychonauts released on PS2, Xbox and PC back in 2005 and follows trainee psychic Razputin exploring the weird and wonderful minds of his peers. The game is said to have sold almost 500,000 units in its first five years on sale and double that in the five years following, leading to total unit sales of 1.69m.
