Version 3.00 of the PSP firmware has been released and with it comes a new batch of functionality. First up is the ability to play emulated PSone titles which have been purchased from the PlayStation Store. Unfortunately for European gamers, you need a PS3 to make the purchase and transfer the game to you PSP. Still, when the PS3 does arrive in Europe, your PSP will be ready for the job.
Hmm I see a trend here… The second big new feature is Remote Play, which turns your PSP into a fancy remote for your PS3. You can load up video, music and pictures and even take control of the PS3’s web browser, all via your PSP. Obviously you won’t be able to do any of this until you have a PS3.
Version 3.00 also includes a new timed recording option in the RSS Channel, some new fast-forward and rewind speeds, Camera support in the Photo Channel, a new visualization player, and the ability to turn on your PSP without auto loading up the UMD.
At the moment you can only get the update form the Japanese PSP site, but with the PS3 out now in North America expect the update to appear on Sony’s US site soon.
