Media Create reports that for the week ending October 19 in Japan Sony’s PSP has sold 159,816 units. The huge rise in sales of the handheld system – up from 23,901 the previous week – can be attributed to the launch of the PSP 3000 which, thanks to its improved screen, has been highly sought after.
The PSP also extends its year to date sales lead over the Nintendo DS to approximately 500,000 units – 2.9 million PSP units compared to 2.5 million DS units.
The home console market continues to be dominated by the Wii, shifting a further 26,024 units, and the Xbox 360 is showing no signs of returning to its once laughable weekly sales – the console sold 7,856 units over the week compared to only 4,725 PS3 units.
