Following a report in Famitsu Weekly claiming that the PSP version of Gran Turismo had been put on hold, Polyphony Digital has issued a statement to clarify the situation.

We can categorically deny all speculation which suggests that PDI is not developing a GT franchise game for the PSP,” Polyphonic Digital said in a statement to Eurogamer. “In fact, we’ve reached the stage where a GT4 equivalent runs on the PSP hardware. However, our main focus at present, is the development and release of a GT title for the PS3 platform.

So, although not cancelled, the game does appear to be on the back burner for the time being. The company went on to say: “Once this has been completed, we can return to, and jump-start, development for the PSP version. In regards to release dates and details, we’ll be making further announcement, at a later date.

So there you have it, direct from the horse’s mouth – it’s still coming, they just don’t know when.
