The new service, which went live yesterday, was revealed on the SCEJ website. A partial translation from Gamasutra reveals that more than 150 Gourmet Pia cafés will host PlayStation Spot technology, allowing PSP gamers to download demos using the handheld’s gameshare functionality. Because the demos utilize game sharing technology, gamers will be unable to save the demo to a Memory Stick, and will lose the demo once the PSP is turned off.
A Sony spokesperson has told Eurogamer that hotspots are something the company is “looking into” for Europe. The PlayStation Spot service is very similar to the Nintendo DS Download Station announcement made at DICE recently, which will see demo-serving kiosks rolled out across the US.
