PS4 System Update v1.70 has been detailed by Sony, confirming users will soon be able to turn off HDCP to enable direct capture over HDMI.
The removal of HDCP means users will be able to capture extended video clips and edit using whichever software they choose.
1.70 also brings a host of other PS4 Share enhancements, most notably the launch of SHAREfactory, a new video editor app designed to make editing easier. With SHAREfactory, users will be able to combine captured video clips for editing, personalise them with special effects, transitions and themes, and share them with friends and social networks.
Additional SHAREfactory features include adding text, stickers and audio tracks (default or imported), as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability using PlayStation Camera.
Furthermore, these videos can be shared to Facebook or exported to a USB storage device, and users now have the ability to change the recording time of gameplay to shorter increments.
Update 1.70 isn’t only about video enhancements, though, with an auto-download feature allowing PS4 gamers to pre-download select pre-order games up to 4 days prior to release. In theory this means the game will be ready to play on release.
