The launch of PS4 Pro gave rise to a 204 per cent increase in PS4 unit sales in the UK for the week just gone, GfK sales figures seen by MCV have revealed.

PS4 Pro consoles accounted for 65 per cent of all PS4 units, whilst sales of the slim model were also up 8.5 per cent week-on-week.

Units sales of PS4 were 44 per cent higher than Xbox One, accounting for 53 and 37 per cent of the market, respectively.

All this despite Xbox One unit sales actually increasing an impressive 85 per cent week-on-week, though this could be down to the clearance of older Xbox consoles at reduced prices.

GamesIndustry notes that actual units sales were over 40k for PS4 Pro, and over 65K for all PS4 systems. Meanwhile Xbox One units were 45K.

Given the typical front-loaded nature of console sales Microsoft may be quietly confident it can still achieve very strong Xbox One sales this Christmas, especially if  mainstream consumers look for a value 4K system some £100 cheaper than the PS4 Pro.
