GameStop has sold out of its launch allocation of PlayStation 4 hardware, the company has announced.

The US retailer halted pre-orders of the console overnight, notifying customers that the “PS4 console [is] currently sold out”.

Xbox One is still available to pre-order.

GameStop is the first major retailer to sell through its launch allocation of PS4 hardware. The console is still available to pre-order at rival retailers Amazon and Best Buy, and at the company’s UK division.

PlayStation 4 is due to release this Christmas.
