It’s baffled us all ever since we first set our eyes on it, leaving us with just one thought; why did they use the Spider-Man font?

Apparently it was the decision of Sony president Ken Kutaragi, that’s according to PS3 designer Teiyu Goto who has been speaking to the UK Official PlayStation Magazine.

Rather than creating a typography with all the risks that entails, it was wiser to use the one from Spider-Man…It was also the wish of President Kutaragi, who insisted that I use this typography,” said Goto. “In fact, the logo was one of the first elements he decided on and the logo may have been the motivating force behind the shape of PS3.
