Back in May, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves said that, “the first five million are going to buy it [the PlayStation 3], whatever it is, even it didn’t have games.” You know what? He was probably right.
Famitsu has revealed that the less than one game per console was sold at the Japanese launch of the PS3. Although the numbers are out of whack because of the large number of consoles bought simply to sell for profit, it still goes some way to back up Reeves’ claims.
As reported yesterday, a total of 88,400 PS3 consoles were sold, 54,600 of the 60GB version and 33,800 of the cheaper 20GB model. On the software front, Ridge Racer 7 managed 30,300 units, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire sold 30,000, and Resistance: Fall of Man came in third with 20,889.
