The PS3’s hefty price tag may already be too high for some gamers, but now it looks like European buyers might have to splash out even more cash on the console.

According to prices posted on the Irish version of the official PlayStation 3 website, the 60GB edition of the next-gen machine will cost EUR 629.99 at launch – that’s 30 Euros more than Sony officially announced last year and nearly £20 in English coinage. The 20GB model has also gone up from EUR 499 to EUR 529.99.

The prices remain unchanged on Sony’s other EU territory websites, meaning they have either not been updated yet or the price hike is for Irish gamers only.

Sony is expected to comment on the situation later today, so stay tuned to Pro-G for an update on this breaking news.
