With more than a year until the release of the PlayStation 3 it is no surprise to hear that the hardware isn’t finished yet. The latest news on the console’s hardware comes from Bit-Tech.net, who are reporting that the NVIDIA created GPU that will be used in the console is not yet ready. Again, this is no surprise, but does mean that the demos shown at last week’s Sony conference were not running on the hardware that will be included in the console.
The videocard solution for the demonstrations was apparently a high-end NVIDIA videocard running in SLI mode. If reports from NVIDIA are true, the final chipset that is included in the PlayStation 3 will be even faster than such a configuration.
We’ll bring you more on the PlayStation 3 as we hear more.
